7 Great British Cheese accompanied with a 270g Peters Yard Original Sourdough Cracker Selection Box
Westcombe – Made by Tom Carver in Westcombe, Somerset
Westcombe Cheddar has a deep complex flavour with a mellow lactic tang and long notes of citrus, hazelnut and caramel.
The texture is structured and firm, with a smooth breakdown that keeps the flavours lingering on your palate.
Baron Bigod – Made by Jonny & Dulcie Crickmore in Bungay, Sulfolk
The only traditionally made, Brie-de-Meaux style cheese produced in the UK.
Small batches are made in the early morning using fresh, warm cows’ milk from Fen Farm’s own herd of Montbéliarde cows in Suffolk.
All the curds are hand-ladled into large brie moulds and then salted by hand and aged for up to 8 weeks.
The flavour of the cheese changes with the seasons, with mushroomy and farmyard notes under the rind and occasional hints of citrus or truffle flavours.
With full provenance from cow to cheese, this is a true artisan cheese.
Cropwell Organic Stilton – Made by Robin Skailes in Nottinghamshire
Cropwell Bishop Organic Stilton is the ‘king’ of blue cheese and surprisingly Cropwell Bishop is still the only Stilton maker to produce a certified organic Stilton.
The organic cows’ milk gives a mellow flavour with the same strong blue veins expected in any Stilton.
It is rich and masterful, what is not to love!
Like all Cropwell Bishop Stiltons their organic Stilton is matured for 12 weeks.
Delicious at Christmas, but in our view a stunning Stilton for any time of the year.
Yr Afr – Bradley and Beth Cunningham in Bethesda, North Wales.
Based loosely on Crottin de Chavignol, and the French light goats’ cheeses often found in the Loire Valley.
Aged for 3-5 weeks it forms a distinctive wrinkly rind that breaks down the vibrant, fresh interior to give it mushrooomy, more vegetal notes that offsets a rich goaty-tang.
Stinking Bishop – Made by Charles Martell in Gloucestershire.
The name of the cheese is derived from the variety of pear “Stinking Bishop”, the juice of which is made into a “perry” and is used to wash the cheese. This gives the cheese its distinctive nose.
The cheese should be the texture of thick clotted cream but on occasion is spoonable rather than sliceable!
Wigmore – Made by Anne Wigmore in Berkshire.
A semi-soft cheese made from pasteurised ewe’s milk with a vegetarian rennet. Wigmore has a complex and fruity richness with a delicate texture.
In October 2023 Wigmore was one of just 100 cheeses to be awarded Super Gold at the 2023/24 World Cheese Awards and was selected by the Super Jury as one of the top 16 cheeses in the world!
Poacher 50 – Made by Simon & Tim Jones in Lincolnshire
In the process, a happy accident occurred — their cheesemaker accidentally allowed the temperature to rise to 50°C while crafting their usual Lincolnshire Poacher.
This unexpected twist resulted in a cheese with a deeper, nuttier flavour profile than the original.
Aged for over four years, Poacher 50 has reached an extraordinary level of flavour depth, combining the best qualities of Comte, Parmesan, and Cheddar. Savoury, nutty, and layered, each bite offers a taste of tradition, resilience, and the beauty of happy accidents.
270g Peters Yard Original Sourdough Cracker Selection Box
These sourdough crackers are made in small batches with our signature sourdough starter, which slowly ferments for 16 hours.
They’re crafted from natural ingredients including Shipton Mill flour and fresh milk. This selection is designed to accompany any cheeseboard and contains three individually wrapped trays.
Peters Yard Original sourdough crackers pair well with any cheese, while Rye & Charcoal works beautifully with soft cheeses such as a goat’s or ripe Brie.
Poppy Seed complements the flavour of a mild crumbly cheese like Caerphilly.
